Pedicures. Pressure points to avoid??

I've searched Google regarding pedicures while pregnant and the only thing I can find is that you should make sure to let your pedicurist know you are pregnant so that they know to avoid certain pressure points on/around your ankles to avoid pre-term contractions.

In my search, I was unable to get info regarding the actual spots to avoid as I would like to be aware so that when I get a pedi, I can keep tabs on what's going on.

Does anyone know where these pressure points are?

  • No I don't, but when you go to a reputable salon, tell them your pregnant and they will avoid the things they need to.

  • I've had pedicures since week 12 and never told the tech I was pregnant and it was fine! Go treat yourself and stop worrying!
  • I think that is more of a concern later on in 3rd tri, if at all.   I haven't had a problem the last 2 times I went.

  • I just tell them to go gentle on the massage part.
  • I don't remember them off the top of my head...but I took an accupressure course in college, and for any pressure points to be effective pressure has to remain on the same spot for at least 30 seconds.  I continue to have pedicures and they don't focus on one spot like that.  I think you'll be fine...just tell them your pg =)

  • Our childbirth course instructor said the pressure point to avoid is about 4-finger widths above your ankle on the inside of your leg. It would take some SERIOUS pressure (and pretty constant pressure) to have any effect on your uterus. She also said it would be pretty hard to get it just right unless you knew what you were doing too. I think you'll be just fine with a pedicure. And most aestheticians aren't trained in reflexology & whatnot so they probably woudn't even know what to avoid. :) Enjoy the pedicure!! :)
