2nd Trimester

Cookie Dough while pregnant

So I am about 17 weeks pregnant (16 weeks 4 days to be exact) and every year we make christmas cookies from scratch. ?I was making the dough this morning with my son and having a good time and when done, just like I always do, I liked a but of dough from the beaters (as did my son). ?Now in hind sight I realize that it probably wasn't the smartest ?thing to do while pregnant. ?Am I in fear of a miscarriage or getting my baby sick because I ate like maybe a teaspoon of cookie dough? ?Or am I just being paranoid?

Anyone else go though this. ?I was so careful with my first pregnancy but this time I've been a bit lazy with all the do's and don'ts. ?I just wanted to know if anyone else did this and their baby turned out fine. ?

?TIA,

Rachel?

  • I avoid anything with raw eggs but I wouldn't freak out over one little bit, it's very unlikely that would have a negative effect. Enjoy the (baked) cookies!

  • You're paranoid.

A teaspoon of cookie dough is not going to turn your baby into the Pillsbury Doughboy.

For future reference, don't ask if it's ok to do something if you've already done it...

  • Repeat after me...all things in moderation..
  • Please direct your attention to the smoked sausage post from yesterday, nuffsaid :o)
  • I did the same thing the other day... Don't worry. Enjoy your time w/your kiddo!
  • It's not like raw meat!!Stick out tongue I will lick the bowl dry if I were you!

  • It's Christmas Eve day so hopefully everyone will be in the holiday spirit and be nice... for your sake..

You are obviously fine, but this is a good way to see who is too busy with the holidays to hang out on here today.. haha?

  • If you eat eggs over easy then you shouldn't stress about raw egg in the dough. The concern is salmonella which you have a better chance at  getting eating out. And yes you could get sick- food poisoning. But you are probably doing more harm stressing.

    And get a ticker aye?!?

  • You had one bite...you're fine and the baby's fine.  Do you really think one bite of dough with like 2 raw eggs in the whole thing is going to kill it?  Good thing for you that it's slow today, yikes.

    Ding! Ding! Ding!

I thought I was really nice.  Compared to what I really wanted to say! Ah, the holiday spirit is within!

Now - when can I go home?

  • You're fine :) I've eaten my fair share of cookie dough this pregnancy - all things in moderation!
  • First off you need a ticker -- rule #1 of being on the bump! Click here ------> PG Tickers

Second, to answer your question, no the cookie dough will not kill your baby. (And I agree with PP, do not ask questions "is this ok?" if you have already done it)

Thirdly, learn the rules of the bump and learn them fast. There are snarky people on here so if you ask a stupid question, a question that warrants flame responses, questions that should clearly be asked of your doctor, questions that can be answered through google, etc. you will hear about it. There are pg hormonal women on here and you will not always see puppies and rainbows. If you  ask a legitimate question, you will get legitimate answers and the women can be very helpful! Do not take everything that is said to your personally and think everyone is mean!

I hope you have a Happy Holidays and enjoy all the time with your son that you can now!! I love cookie dough BTW!

  • ah, I needed a good laugh this morning!  thanks for sharing!

seriously though, relax, it's going to be a looooong 9 months if you freak out about a tsp of cookie dough.  you are fine and the baby is fine.
