I am freaking out...

the doctor just called with the results of Jonas' third blood draw and his platelet count is still elevated. This is the reason why he keeps having the tests done...she figured it would come down, but it's not. So, he has to go back to All Children's again for another draw and some special tests to try and find out why it's not dropping to normal. I am so scared right now. We can't go until after the holidays either. This sucks.

Re: I am freaking out...

  • Aw.  =(  I am sorry.
  • That is scary. I'm sorry. Try not to think of the worst. Even though it's our nature to do just that. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

  • I'm sorry.  I didn't see your OP, so I don't know your situation, but I wanted to tell you my mom had a blood draw and her platelets were elevated.  They couldn't figure out the problem so she was referred to a specialist.  After a bunch of tests they finally figured out that she was fine.  Her blood reacts to something in the test tube and the longer it sits the more elevated it gets.  If the blood is drawn and tested immediately then in comes back normal.

  • What would be the reason for elevated platelets? What was the first reason to have his blood drawn?

I don't know your back story, sorry.

  • [[hugs]] hang in there. ?maybe it's just a fluke thing. ?Good Luck! ?Thoughts & Prayers to Jonas!! (& your fam)?

He had the original draws because of delayed cord seperation (he was over two months old when it finally came off). From what I understand, having an elevated platelet count is common, but not three elevated counts. I've read that too high a count can lead to blood clots, and, though rare, can be a sign of leukemia.

  • Okay. Now I remember you posting something about the cord seperation. I think I was over two months when my cord finally came off too.

Don't get too worried yet. It is probably just a fluke thing and he is fine. I'll be thinking and praying for you all.

  • (((hugs)))
