Mine (pushing 15 lbs) is extremely playful/curious, so I guess I should be looking into a crib tent.
The crib I have is a hand me down from mother in law, but does anyone know a good place to register/buy a crib tent or are you not worried about your cat jumping in?
Re: Anyone with cats worry about cat jumping in crib?
I plan to let all 3 cats sleep in the crib with baby - then I don't have to turn the heat up, right?
Hey now that is a good idea!
Tiiiiiiiiiicker, ticker, ticker. I see that your due date is Junewhatever thanks to your SN, but I think you still need a ticker. I'm lazy like that.
Love,
The Ticker Po-Po
We have 2 cats and yes, we are a little worried too. Our 1 is worrying us more than the other. I think it takes time too just to see how the cats react, the one we are worried about may also be terrified of the baby and just not even go near anything baby related...but, we are gonig to get a tent too just in case...Here are a few crib tents I found by googling...I'm sure there are others out there.

LOL @ ticker po po
Our cat is a little too skiddish, if she were any younger than what she is, I would be nervous. But she's afraid of even the laundry buzzer that she's heard for 2.5 years!
Um, but I think if it were really a big concern, I would close the nursery door at night, while having the monitor there.
Putting plastic bags in a crib is a joke right? Right? Because otherwise the Child Protection Service Police are going to come take over the Ticker Po-Po.
Our cat jumped in the crib the first day it was up, the first chance he had when we weren't in the room. We had put the crib skirt on, but no mattress, and it was clear that he had jumped in and fallen through the springs - the crib skirt was all balled up and pushed through the springs.
The only crib net that I've seen was in BRU, and it was like $75. It sucks to shell over $75 that could be used elsewhere, but I think we're going to have to, since our cat has already proven that he's able and interested.
My thoughts exactly, so cats = bad and plastic bags to suffocate = good?
I praying to all that is good that this was a snark fail.
Wouldn't putting plastic bags in the crib, have a suffocation risk for the baby?
My sister's cat would jump into my niece's crib and pee in it! I don't know if she was marking her territory or jealous, but you know how hard it is to get cat pee out! It was gross. I'm going to leave the door closed to keep my cat out.
I'm not worried about this because I hate cats.
And as for plastic bags, why stop there? I think for safety purposes you could probably wrap the baby in bubble wrap, then Saran wrap. You could use aluminum foil, but then you can't put the baby in the microwave.
Plastic bags in the crib? Are you serious??
Obviously there's no baby in the crib yet per my ticker... where is the ticker po po when I need them?! The bags are to scare the cat from jumping in once the baby is there! Silly girls.
Boo to hating cats, but BA-HA-HA-HA to the rest of this post. You just made my morning.
I am more worried about mine sitting on the baby. There is no way he can get in the crib. He's a big kitty. LOL
Ok. I honestly believe that so-and-so meant to put the bags in the crib BEFORE baby is born to help teach kitty that the crib is out of bounds. I have also heard that double sided tape (which sounds like a pain in the ass) and tin foil have the same effect with kitties.
That being said, my cats love to play with plastic bags and tin foil, so I doubt this will truly help anyone.
Buy a monitor, close the door.?
Tin Foil is supposed to work (this is obviously before baby)...
My sister's cat slept in the crib from the day they got it, and once her son was born, he slept in a cradle for 2 months and the cat was still in the crib...Now, she has to chase the cat out of the room everytime she puts him down...and he waits by the door to be let in...not fun...Definately try something to scare your cat from developing the habit...
Yeah, I agree with you on this one. I'm pretty sure that is what she meant - to me, not flameworthy. Ya caught me on my nice day
I'm not.
My cat is a terrible jumper and we're not planning to have anything near the crib that he can use to jump into it.
I'm guessing if you put the bags in there now BEFORE the baby comes it will train the cat not to jump in there later. I'd bet she's smarter than to put lpastic bags in the crib with her child.
I am a little worried also. I said something to my safety challenged DH and he said ti was a wives tale. I have a large cat and in the past, my kitties have been way to interested in my breastmilk - that was a challenge keeping them away. The milk on your babies breath and the warm and inviting little body and crib will attract the most skittish kitty. The old wives tale my DH was referring to is that cats suck the breathe from the baby (not that they get in the crib - which is what he was thinking). In truth, they will sometimes sit on thier chest ( like they do to big people, only we can still breathe) or cuddle up to thier face and accidentally suffocate them. I like the tent idea but I have never seen one. I am not sure what to do, except close the baby's door and use a baby monitor.
We had a huge black cat named Jake who used to sleep in my crib, curled around my head. I survived, but then, we survived not having car seats or bike helmets and rounded corners were a joke. It doesn't mean it was a good thing.
youd be amazed at what a 15lb cat can do hahaha
uh, you seem like a super rational person.
seriously. get a tent, it will be fine. people have had cats with babies for many years. it's alright.
