cash from a student?  I did today.  I was shocked.  He gave me a card and when I opened it, out popped the cash.  I've never gotten cash before,  I guess it is like a gift card right?

Yes, one year I got a $100 bill.  Weird huh?

I had a family give me a check at the end of last year.  They did say it was to help with supplies for the room for this year.  (it's developmental preschool and I'll have their little boy for three years)

Alright! Finally, teachers getting tipped at Christmas just like others who provide service. I get candy occasionally, but never any cash. Was it awkward?

Lucky! May I ask what kind of SES your students have? I work in a title 1 school, so I was amazed when I got a stuffed Santa Claus and one card this year.
