3rd Trimester

Reasons for a scheduled C/S

A) They're afraid of not having perfect, sixteen year old vaginas.

B) They're afraid of having to actually go through labor and push a human being out of them. (they apparently choose the awful c/s risks over those)

C)It's more convenient to schedule a C-section than to sit on the toilet drinking castor oil, rubbing your nipples, and attempting to get sex out of a man who'd rather hang himself with your umbilical chord.

These are only the women I've known who had them, if you have another reason than good for you. But these are STUPID reasons. Surgery is never a good choice.

  • OH SNAP Surprise These be some serious fighting words.  runs to make popcorn.......

  • Well obviously the legit reasons.. Women that have had C-Sections before and cannot have a vb.
  • I'm assuming you're going for all the elective reasons, and not listing the legit, medical reasons? (e.g., breech baby, not a VBAC candidate like JAR, etc.)

Of course, I would never make fun of someone with a medical reason.

  • There are legit reasons, too.

I agree with going naturally instead of c-section whenever possible, but be careful with your attitude.  It seems the more stringent women are, the harder it is for them when birth doesn't go exactly as planned.

That doesn't apply to everyone, although it isn't easy to find a doctor who will do a VBAC.

I can think of another reason:

The doctor doesn't want to have to work on a holiday or have it conflict with vacation. A friend of mine decided to have a c-section because of this (I, on the other hand, would never let my doctor try to use this as an excuse)

  • I have a dr appointment though, so no snarking for me. Just know that I'm only referring to women who choose to have a C/S. The good for you part was about women who choose it for a good reason and not a silly one.

This one's my favorite of the reasons... LOL!

  • when i read this i spit the dr.pepper i was drinking out of my nose!!! LMAO at 16 year old vags!!

oh and i totally agree with you if you get one and its not for a med reason than you are either selfish or stupid!

  • I have one...

The OB resident freaks out when the baby gets stuck under the pubic bone (shoulder dystocia) and has not been taught the Gaskin maneuver.  She shouts "push the head back in! and we'll do a section)

Thank god she was just a resident.

  • I am only having mine out of medical necessity. That and my hospital doesn't do VBAC's. My first was an emergency, my second was scheduled and my third will be scheduled here shortly. I would never choose to have one if I didn't need to!

I agree all the reasons you posted are stupid and frankly, kind of selfish!

I too will assume this is what you mean.  Mine is due to a prior uterine surgery creating a high risk of rupture and injury or death to both the baby and me.  I'm pretty lucky I can get pregnant and so far safely carry.

  • now now now, I am having a vaginal and wouldn't chose a c-section but it seems that most people are just scared bc it's more painful and they read people birth stories and they don't think they can do it. I

I completely agree with this. This is why many women feel extremely upset or even depressed when their labor turns out differently than they had hoped.

  • I was ready to jump all over you, and call you stupid, until I read your reasons, yes those are dumb and selfish reasons to have a c/s.  Mine was supposed to be scheduled for today, due to placenta previa, but Logan had other plans, and still came via c/s, because my blood pressure was so high, my dr said I quote "light years away from a vaginal delivery!"  So when I read this originally, I assumed you were calling me stupid for having a c/s.

    I will shut up now.

  • Yes, those are certainly stupid reasons, but certainly not the only reasons out there
