never heard of it, but it's nms. ?i think that someone with this name would spend a lot of time telling people how to pronounce her name, and that would get old pretty fast.

I've lived my life with a unique name (Aviva) and I've always loved having an unusual name. Sure, you have to tell people how to pronounce it or spell it from time to time, but I figure it's better than having to say "I'm Emma B. not Emma D" all the time.

I've only heard of it because I order Christmas ornaments every year from Calliope Designs. I don't hate it but agree that people ill mispronounce it. In fact, all these years I've thought it was Cally-ope.
The only place I've ever heard this name is in the book "Middlesex", which was very interesting, sad, and kinda weird. But they called her Callie, which I think is really cute!
This is the name of the Lesbian doctor on Grey's Anatomy. They call her Callie on the show, but her full name is Calliope. I think that people will always ask her how to spell it and she will always have to pronounce it. I think it is cute, but I would not use it for my girl.
Being someone who always had to spell her name to everyone it got old really fast.
It's a Greek mythological name, but also the name of a musical organ, like as in what plays at the circus. I still like it though. (And it's Cal-LIE-opie.)

It is a steam organ on a riverboat. Here in New Orleans people would know how to pronounce it- there is also a street with that name here, but like some other people said, most people won't know how to pronounce it.
However, it is pretty and different and its up to you.
Re: Anyone using or know of someone with Calliope as a name?
That was our girl name, but we had a boy (Booker)
We would have pronounced it Kuh-LIE-oh- pee
I dont know anyone with that name. H just told me that it is the name of a friend's band. I like it FWIW.
I think it's a very pretty name.

I do know someone with this name.
With a "C" it is a steam organ. Think circus music
With a "K" it is the muse
Either way, you are socking it to your kid, me thinks. But "Callie" is a cute nn.

It is the name of the main character in the book "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugeniedes. The character happens to be a hermaphrodite...
That book was REALLY popular a few years ago...

I KNEW I'd seen that name before!

Yikes. I personally hate it, but it's your kid.
Also, you're either spelling it our pronouncing it wrong. No one is going to figure that out.
Don't know anyone IRL with this name but I think Calliope nn Callie would be fine.
Also, you are pronouncing it wrong. It's k?-LIE-?-pee. It means "beautiful voice".
