Is this reflux?

Lately my DS has been spitting up more than usual.  It is as though he is spitting up everything that he has taken in.  I BF and supplement w/formula and it doesn't matter which one he gets he still spits up what appears to be most of what he has taken in.  I called the pedi and they said to try burping him more frequently and if that didn't help then they would evaluate him for reflux.  This has helped only a little and doesn't prevent complete spit every time.  He will also wake up after about an hour of sleep screaming and when I pick him up he burps/spits up.  Is this reflux?  What are other signs of reflux?  TIA

  • Does he seem in pain when he spits up?

  • DD has reflux.  The main things to look for are back arching, frequent hiccups, spitting up, fussiness/crying during and/or after feeding.  However, keep in mind that the symptoms can also mean something else like a milk intolerance/sensitivity.  Definitely have your DS evaluated by his pedi.  GL HTH.

  • Occasionally.  More relieved than anything, especially when he wakes up crying and is then able to burp/spit up.

  • Might be gas? We used Mylicon after each feeding. Also look for the other signs that the PP suggested.

My DS would scream in hysterics (think teradctyl) at his feedings. If you feel like something is wrong and your pedi is blowing you off it might be worthwhile to look for another one. Good luck!

This is EXACTLY what DD did but only at bedtime. We went through 6 weeks of hell & horrible  sleeping before we realized it could be reflux. We started her on Axid & it got worse. We switched to Prevacid a week later & she was a different baby that first night. She gradually went from 2-3 hr stretches to 4-5 & now 8-10 hrs at night. Her other symptoms were kind of silent. She didn't spit up much at all. She had lots of wet burps & fussing/fighting while nursing. Coughing & gagging also.
