(I discovered the bump towards the end of my pg and mainly lurked, but my birth story is too good to not share!- the funny part is how it ended b/c i had been on bedrest for 2 months due to my bp and expected to have a very long, drawn out labor)
I went to the doctor on Monday 12/1 , not expecting to have any change, but I was dialated to 2 cm so with my bp issues, my doctor was very ready to induce me (I was 39 weeks, 5 days on Tues, so definately not too early!!!) . (they had been waiting to induce me since 37 weeks but i just wasn't ever favorable.)
I checked in Monday night to L&D, they did the cervadil overnight and I didn't really have any change which was wasn't unusual, especially for a first baby. Of course I did not sleep at all b/c they were pumping me full blast with IV fluids and I literally had to get up every single hour to pee, which involved the ordeal of unplugging a lot of different stuff.
Tues am I started the Iv pitocin around 8 am. My doctor came in to check me at 9 30 or 10 and I was still very comfortable, in fact I was barely feeling any contractions at all at that point. I was 3 cm but his head was super low, so he went ahead and broke my water. Almost instantly I went from feeling a little crampy to contrations every minute to 2 minutes. OMG that was not fun, I was like those women on discovery health- doing all kinds of crazy positions, but it was the only way i could deal with the pain. I think Patrick was scared to death at that point!!!!
I had told them I wanted to get an epidural when I checked in the night before so they had drawn the labs already, but literally it felt like days waiting b/c they had to run a bolus of fluid before they could do it. By the time they did my epidural it was around 11 am, and I started feeling better around 11 30.
My doctor came in and checked me and said he was hoping for 4-5 cm. I was already at 7 by then, so that was good news and the nurse suggested I try to rest. So i sort of dozed off and on till around 2pm.
The hurse came to check me and I was 10 cm and that point, 100% effaced and -1 station. So his head was very low. The new on call doc had arrived and he had a planned c/s to do, so they were going to let me hang out a little longer (b/c i was totally comfortable) so that gravity could do some of the work and I could get more feeling in order to work on pushing.
She told me to call her if I felt "A ton of pressure or pain" But I was fine, just chilling out, texting people and talking to my sister on the phone. Seriously.
So around 3 pm, I started feeling more pressure (but not bad, just i knew something was going on, and my legs were starting to get some feeling back into them). I just jokingly put my hand down there and OMG i touched his head, I immediately called the nurse and she came within a minute or two, examined me and said " Oh, don't worry, it is just some swelling on the very top of his head you are feeling" I jokingly said "well i don't want to have him come out in the bed before my doctor can get here" . She reassured met that would NEVER happen in a first time baby, especially an induction with a big term baby. So i laughed b/c honestly I was so comfortable I was afraid labor had stopped or something.
Literally ten minutes or so later (after calling my sister and joking around) I started feeling a lot more pressure. I moved the blanket b/c i wanted to see if I could still feel his head.
All of a sudden, his entire head popped right out and his body followed.patrickl literally ran 100 miles an hour out the door screaming for the nurses and I pressed the call button and said "Um the baby just came out" i am not joking. I was so scared b/c he came out face down so I could not see if he was breathing, but by the time I flipped him over he was screaming and pink and perfect. The nurses all came barreling in immediately. ( I later found out that there was a life threatening emergency next door, which is why nobody had been in my room)
There was nothing set up, no bulb suction, no cord clamps, no scissors, NOTHING!!! I was drying him off with the blanket on the bed and the nurses were ripping open sterile packages to they could clamp and cut the cord. He was screaming his head off, they gave him apgars of 9 and 10. They guessed his birth time was 3:17 pm b/c that was when he came off the fetal monitor. LOL.
They paged my doctor and snatched him to the radiant warmer ( of course it wasn't actually on!). He arrived and ended up delivering the placenta and stitched me up, b/c he did some minor damage on the way out!!!! What do you expect for that kind of speed?
He's doing great, his weight was 7lb 7 oz after all the stress of his weight issues and he's breastfeeding well. I'm super tired but otherwise doing well, and we came home Thurs 12/4.
Oh, I told my OB he owes me a refund ![]()
Re: Fast labor and delivered him myself...no kidding.

Oh. My. Goodness.
And congrats!
Wow! I would analyze that hospital bill and make sure the hospital doesn't charge you for the part that you did.
Congratulations!
What an amazing story!
No way! I am glad that you and the baby are okay. I am sure your husband was wigging out and sprinting huh?
Goodness what a birth story.
WOW. That sounds like MUD for sure, but I will pretend to believe you!
Congratulations! What a story to tell the kid later....?
HILARIOUS! I agree, you need some sort of discounted rate or something! LOL! What a cool story! Congrats on your delivery and arrival and good job LOL!
My sister had a similar story! The head started coming out on it's own before the doctor was even in the room. Everyone had just left saying she had time. But nope - the baby didn't agree - he wanted to come out, and come out he did! The nurses/doctor did make it, though, before the rest of him came out.
Congrats!

that semi happened to me, they broke my water and gave me the epi at 9 am (I was dilated to 9 and my water hadn't broke yet) so I am hanging out until 3:45 (shift change) with nobody coming to check on me at all, so when the new nurse came in she asked why I wasn't pushing and when the last time I was checked was. I told her I hadn't been check since 9 am and she freaked, left the room. My aunt told me when to push because I was already -3 and he was delivered and clean before I ever saw the dr.
