Adoption

Adventures at Barnes and Noble

DH and I went to B & N today for some Christmas shopping.  We were also looking for some adoption books while we were there.  I, of course, couldn't find the section so I had to ask for help.  There in the middle of the Pregnancy/Baby section were count them 5 (yes F-I-V-E) books on adoption.  Slap. in. the. face.

Re: Adventures at Barnes and Noble

  • Yep...and it's usually smashed between Step-Parenting and Parenting children with special needs.

On the bright side-  there's plenty of room for any adopters/wannabe writers to add to the shelf :)

  • I had the same issue at my B&N. I took a photo & blogged about it... Here's the photo (how many can you locate?):

  • I was looking for children's books on Adoption at Borders. ?The woman was very helpful and seemed VERY embarrassed to discover one or two books in the designated section. ?I just said, "That's ok." ?She looked at me and said, "No, actually it's not. ?I am very sorry. ?This is a very important topic, and I'm embarrassed". ?At least someone acknowledged it! ?
  • Yet another reason (among many) I LOVE Amazon for books.  I buy used books cheap, and the selection is much nicer for adoption books.

  • I feel ya. I posted on here that I couldn't find a single adoption book at either B&N or Borders. I wrote to them both, and actually found some books at my next visit to Borders. It was one section over from the Adoption section, but at least they finally stocked something. I was prepared to accost the first salesperson that got near me ;)
  • I just returned from a HUGE 2 floor Borders in my city. I am now the proud owner of the ONLY copy of "Adoption for Dummies" that the store had. They had like 2 other adoption books, and that was it. I was able to find 2 copies of "Tell Me About the Night I was Born" in the children's section. I guess I am just bummed at the lack of selection, because I feel that there are many families in the same position as we are. Anyway, I am glad I have a copy of a book that came so highly recommended! Geeked
