Bad name connotations.

I hate it when people say "I can't name someone X because I know someone else who's cousin is named X and I hate her."

Okay, if you like the name, use it. My dog is named Trinity, after the character in the Matrix. My bro thought of the name and for the first week, "Trinity" was still the character in the Matrix. But now, if I ever watch the movie again, they're talking about my dog half the time.

Your connotations will change. What do you think you'll think of more, your child's name or some past co-worker's kid?

I understand what you're saying. ?However, I also understand the feelings behind negative connotations associated with names. ?I am a teacher and I have a list of names that I will not name my child based on past students. ?I feel the same way about not using names that belonged to either my, or DH's, ex's. ?You may be right that the negative connotations would wear off but, I think the point is that those names would never appeal to me now because of the associations they currently have.

Um. Yeah. But if you have a negative connotation right away then you usually DON'T like the name. This seems like kindof a mute point.

I think it depends on the association - there's a few names that I previously liked, but i think I would feel weird giving my baby the same name as my boss, especially since I haven't been able to say her name in years w/o clenching my teeth. If I leave my company and move on, the association will wear off and I would consider it for a later child, but while I'm still there and not going anywhere soon, I don't think I can do it.

DITTO, I'm so tired of people mentioning that. Like I care about your sister's, best-friend's snotty kid. OR that geek you went to high-school with OR that one guy who stood you up once. Give me a break! I'm not really teling people the names we're thinking about seriously, I make it up when they ask, that way whatever comment they make won't really offend me.
