GBCN

Since no one answering in the post, I'll ask right here. :) What spawned the phrase "Goodbye Cruel Nest."?

Re: GBCN

  • i think it stems from people getting mad when they ask a question, and get honest answers.  they get mad and leave because sometimes, the truth sucks.  but we aren't here to lie to anyone.  just say it like it is.

  • excellent question. id like the original post/history of this! lol
  • Way back in the olden days when we were all part of the nest, when people left the board after being flamed and not being able to take it, they would write a post that essentially was them saying goodbye cruel nest.  Normally it was very poorly written by a crying girl and uber insulting to everyone.
  • It's a term I've seen used since I was on the Knot. Of course, it was known as GBCK over there. I've been around for a long time, and it was here before me. I'd be surprised if anyone could pinpoint where it started.
  • Picture a grown woman sobbing and e-jumping off a building with the back of her hand to her forehaed in a dramatic fashion...

i would like to add to that vision-

picture this woman wearing a long red satin nightgown, fluffy kitten heal slippers with little feathers, a matching red satin robe with fur trim, a bottle of champagne in her free hand, and a few xanex pills to wash down with it. oh yes, and sixties finger waves bright red lipstick, and smeared mascara running down her tear streaked face.

  • LOL! Well it is interesting that it's such an old phrase. This must be one b*tchy board. ;)

Yes, that's perfect!  Completes the vision!!!

  • It's a variant on "Goodbye, Cruel Internet", a phrase I've seen used for lo these many years in various online communities. It's also called a flounce or "I'm taking my ball and going home!" It originated with "Goodbye, cruel world!", o' course.
