Babies: 0 - 3 Months

dd and grandpa...really upset

So tonight was the 2nd time that my dad came up to watch the baby and the 2nd time that she started crying almost immediately!  It broke my heart to have to leave.  I'm not worried that he can't handle her, he is super patient and loving but I feel so bad that she doesn't seem to "like" him and while he won't admit it I know it hurts his feelings!  She is usually a VERY happy baby and is out of the house a lot so it is not like she has some sort of stranger adversion I am aware of....ug...anyone else have a baby who acts up w/ a particular person?

  • Not yet with mine, but my niece is like that with one of DH's brothers. ?We think it is because of the facial hair (he has a very full beard). ?The kicker - he is her godfather! =(?

  • DD does this with my DH's cousin. He never watches her, but we visit the IL's once a week and take the cousin there and back with us. I've had to start riding in the back so that he can ride up front, or DD will cry the ENTIRE trip.
  • Yes, my DS doesn't like MIL and she'll be watching him for 2 weeks in January when I first go back to work. I don't want her to, but don't have the heart to tell her no, that he only cries for her. She's coming over next Tuesday to "shadow" me and I think I'm just going to tell her to not be so overstimulating with him. That's all the problem is- she's always up in his face and he needs some down time and he has to nap (she doesn't get this apparently). I'm hoping she'll do better by watching him all day long and at our house. Usually we go over to her house for a holiday or something and so she wants to hold him and talk to him the ENTIRE time!
  • This happened to me several years ago.  My MIL babysat DH's cousin's kids.  Her daughter would SCREAM at the top of her lungs every time she saw me.  She would be sitting in the doorway of a room, and I couldn't even walk down that hallway past that doorway.   Now, she smiles and plays with me.  She's 3.  I'm not sure when it ended, but all is fine now.  I hope that gives you hope!!!

  • Yup. DD  does this with FIL. It started when she was 3 months out of nowhere. She loved him up until than. Now he always says no when we go to give her to him. We feel horrible but make him hold her so she knows he is safe. I hope she out grows it. He adores her.

  • Sometimes my DS does that with my step-dad. We think it's because his voice is so deep b/c he now tries to talk softer and DS hasn't been crying. I felt so bad, it broke my stepdad's heart!!
  • No advice here, I just wanted to send a "Hello" from my Hadley to yours.  What a cutie!
