We live in upstate NY (Albany/Syracuse 2 hours away, NYC 3 hours, Rochester 4 hours). I've contacted several well known agencies throughout the state about whether we would be able to adopt through them...We can't. A lot of them have mileage limits and won't adopt outside of a 100 mile radius.
We know exactly what kind of adoption we want to do and we can't find an agency! Any ideas?
After a lot of research of agencies both local and not local (but licensed in our state of NJ) we selected an agency that is based in KS but licensed here as well. Our agency works with birth mothers from all of the US. While it would have been nice to have an agency 'down the road' we opted for an agency that met all of our needs and we felt comfortable with. Our communication has been awesome - maybe better than if we had an agency down the road.
I don't know what your path of adoption is but there is an agency that is for you - but you might have to research licensed agencies outside of your area too. Good luck!
Hey I live in Clifton Park ---10 min north of Albany......we are using Wide Horizon for the Children and they do all types of adoption.......they are nationally recogninzed and we have had friends who have used them 3 times did you try them????? If not let me know I will get you all the info I have on them and a contact name!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want you can email [email protected]
Where in upstate are you? My parents are in the Adirondacks. If you are in that area, I would look to your county seat (theirs is Elizabeth), and call the social services division and ask if they could give you a list of agencies that work in your area. You could also contact the Adirondack Community Action Program (https://acapinc.org) and ask them for a list.
10 years ago I used Bethany Christan Services to give my baby up for adoption. I was in NH going to college but was from NY. They are based in PA but do work in NY. They were fantastic to work with, it was a great experience for me.
