Switching from Gentlease to regular Enfamil

Ok so DD had extreme colic and relux, I BF for 3 months and since then shes been on Gentlease. DH wants me to try her on regular Enfamil now b/c Costco sells it so we would end up saving alot of money. If it doesnt work out then no big deal, but we have a bunch so he wants me to try. Has anyone done this? Does she need to be on the regular at some point to "prepare" her for cows milk when she turns a year old? Should I just start making her bottles half gentle/half regular? I guess I'll call the pedi too but any thoughts?

Re: Switching from Gentlease to regular Enfamil

  • I don't know about regular Enfamil, but we just switched DD to generic (Target) Gentlease this past week. We did it gradually, and she's done fantastic.

  • Probably not what you want to hear, but we tried to switch and it didn't go so well.  I started by mixing it 50/50 and DS was really fussy and gassy.  I had a huge can of the regular so I started to mix 75/25 and he was fine with that.  That was 3 months ago and we are now using the 50/50.  I don't think that we will switch completely to the regular.

Do you have a Sam's Club by you?  That is where we get their version of gentlease.  It is double the amount of the Enfamil for $26.

  • My DD has been on gentlease f(she had reflux also) since she was 2.5 months (breastmilk before that) and I asked my pedi when I could switch and she said there was no reason to, why rock the boat.  I started cheese and yogurt and so far she's been fine, so I'm asusming in a couple months the transition to cow's milk will be okay.  I contemplated changing to a generic brand for costs also but never did cause I was to afraid of her regressing into a little terror again..HAHA!  In the end I didn't feel saving the money was worth the chance.
  • We switched from Nutramigen, to Enfamil Prosobee, and she does better on that than she did the Nutramigen. And Prosobee is the same price as the plain Enfamil.
