Babies: 9 - 12 Months

9 month old and only 16 lbs- anyone else with a tiny baby?

My DD is 9 months and 16 lbs 2oz.  She continues to gain weight but it's always been on the slower side.  She isn't a huge eater but she has been eating more solids lately so i expected her to weigh more.  She has been crawling for over 3 months and is very active so I am assuming she just burns a lot of calories! Any other moms out there with smaller babies? HOw much does your child eat a day? Thanks so much!

  • My girls were only 16 and 17 lbs at 9 mo as well. They have always been small, so our pedi is fine with it. Some babies have to be on the lower end of the charts!

FWIW, Charlotte was just weighed the other day at the pedi and she is 19 lbs 8 oz at 11.5 mo, so she is keeping to her curve of about 1 pound of weight gain per month.

  • Zachary was 15 lbs, 4 oz at his 9 month appointment.  We have a weight check tomorrow and I'm so excited because I know he's put on some good weight.  I'm hoping he'll be at least 16.5 or 17 lbs.

I haven't really changed much in his diet other than I am feeding him formula during the day instead of BFing.  I hope to keep nursing morning and evening until he's one.

  • DS is 14 lbs 4 ounces and almost 7 months.  We give him extra calories in his formula and add a supplement to it too.  He has delayed gastric emptying so he's never been a good eater.  At his appointment on Monday he had gained 4 ounces in 3 weeks which was huge for him.
  • My Ds is on the smaller side.  He has always been in the 10th%.  He weighed 17lb 7oz at his 9 month visit.  Only about 1 lb per month, as he was 18lb 4 oz at 10 months.  He is very active and eats well so no one is too concerned.

  • My dd has always been on the smaller side at 9 months she was 14 lbs 6 oz. is has been in the 5% since she was born.
  • My DD was only 14 lbs., 5 oz. at her 6-month appt. That's 11 %.

  • My 10 m/o is right around 14ish pounds. I'm really not concerned at all- my ds has also always been very small. I know that dd gets plenty to eat- she's just going to be very petite and that's okay.

?FWIW, my ds was 16 lbs. at his 1 year check-up and didn't hit 20 lbs. until his 2 year appointment.??

  • DD was a little over 16lbs at her 9 month appt. She's consistently been in the 10th percentile since birth, though, so neither her pedi or I are concerned.?

  • Ruari was about 16lbs 10 oz at her 9 month appointment, but she's 29in...so very long and lean.  She has been dropping %, so we are adding fat.  Lots of yogurt, cream, butter & avocado.  We are also upping the solids.  I'm going to take her back in in Jan for a weight check.  She looks like she's gained weight, but it's hard to tell.
  • Yep!  My dd was 15 lbs 13 oz at nine months.  Same thing, very active - crawling and pulling up.  She eats an insane amount (3 meals, 2 snacks, and 5x nursing a day).  I don't know where it all goes!

  • Ds was 16 lbs 8 oz at 9 months in the 3rd percentile, but just a few weeks later, he was up to 18lbs even, so I was thrilled.  They had been watching him b/c he was 40-50% for the 1st 3 months then dropped, but he seems to be gaining now and the pedi also said that with crawling and all he would may not be gaining as fast.
