How to deal with a whining?

S finally seems to be feeling better (knock on wood, no puke today) but now the whining has started. She literally can not say one word without whining. I have had to tell her about 18 times today, "Please stop whining and just talk. I can't understand you." I know she is sick, and I have been giving her lots of extra snuggles, and even let her come to work with me today because she screamed when I tried to drop her off at school, but I think the whining is going to be my downfall.?

Any tips to help with the whining? Or do I just suck it up and deal until she is 100%??

And four days alone in the house with a sick kid is TOO much!?

Re: How to deal with a whining?

  • We just kept saying over and over "we can't understand you when you whine.  Please use your big girl voice."  And we wouldn't give her what she wanted until she asked using a pleasant voice and saying "please."  Over and over and over and over for weeks.  And then finally, the whining stopped.  Well, not STOPPED - anyone who says their toddler never whines is lying.  But it reduced to a manageable amount.  But it took a LONG time of us having to remind her to talk like a human.
