PP question (TMI maybe)

How long did you bleed pp after a vaginal delivery?  I'm at week 10 now...  still needing a pad.  I go to see my midwife on Monday but am thinking of adding some iron supplements till then.  I'm exhausted this week and that's the only reason I can think of.  It's let up a couple times, but not totally stopped since DD was born.

Re: PP question (TMI maybe)

  • The same exact thing happened to me.  Did you have an internal to check your cervix since you delivered like at your 6 week pp appt.  I bled/spotted for 16 weeks after delivery to find out that my cervix tore and it was not caught by the OB who delivered my dd.  It was caught at my 6 week pp appt by my reg OB who said at this point it was starting to heal and nothing could be done at this point.  It should have been stitched at birth but would possibly cause infection if done at 6 weeks pp.  So, now I am high risk with any further pregnancies to monitor my cervix since it tore "right up the center". My OB said it healed nicely but you can see the scar tissue and it needs to be monitored.  So, please have it checked!  GL
  • Oh and BTW, statistically, only 1% of all childbirths tear the cervix and of course I had to be a part of that!

  • I know everyone is different, but that sounds very excessive to me.  I bled for maybe 2 weeks, tops.  From what I have been told, that was abnormal too.
  • I was still bleeding 8wks pp. I asked my MW about it and she said I have been too active (I also have a toddler). It stopped shortly after with no conscious change in activity level. Hope everything is okay with you.
  • I think the usual PP OB visit is 8 weeks after and I remember the bleeding having stopped shortly before that point. I wouldn't think that 2 more weeks indicates a problem especially if it seems to be slowing down. Could you call your mid-wife to just ask?

  • I don't think it matters if it's vag or C-section. Mine was a C-section and I remember I was bleeding for more than 2 mos. It gradually tapered off and stopped. It ended around when the night sweats did.

  • I bled less than 9wks with DS

and less than 7wks with DD.

You def need to call your dr.

  • I bled for 6 weeks after DD1 was born, and am still bleeding with DD2 at almost 3 weeks PP.
  • I go in Monday to get checked.  They didn't seem too worried when I called and talked with the nurse... but it didn't seem normal to me either.I am chasing a toddler as well and I know my mw said that 6-8 weeks was pretty standard with a mom who has kids at home already.  Hopefully it's just nothing and not a big deal, but I do still feel sore for lack of a better term?  I'll definitely mention that and hopefully they can rule out anything serious.

I only bled for 5 weeks pp following DS's c-section...

    Thanks!

  • Mine stopped around 3 months.

  • I have a toddler at home as well and I bled or atleast spotted for 8 weeks.  With that being said my midwife suggested taking 600 mg of ibuprofen every 4-6 hours for 2 days and that might end it for you.  I did not end up doing it because I stopped a few days after my appointment.  I asked why that would help and she said that the anti inflammatory shrinks the (ummm... crap I cant think of the word I want to use -- mommy brain of course) best I can think of is cells and that stops the bleeding.  It is worth a try...  Wont hurt anything that is for sure.
