Oral steroids (like for croup) make it hard to sleep?

Ethan is usually a great sleeper these days (NEVER thought I'd be able to say that!), but we gave him an oral steroid tonight b/c he's had a bit of croup and the pedi prescribed it and he was a NIGHTMARE to put to bed tonight. ?Like crazy crying and up super late. ?

He did nap today, which he rarely does, so taht could have thrown him off, but it was upsetting to see him get so distraught, even when we were right there with him. ? I'm wondering if it was something in the meds.

Yes, they do tend to amp them up a bit.

They said it could when N was on them last week, but we didn't really notice a difference.

Yes, that is a possible side effect of steroids. Mia always got crazy after her nebulizer treatments.

Yes, steriods can make kids a bit hyper, and also increase their appetite. The common side effects of steriods are:  Hyper, Hungry, and Happy.

Steroids do make you hyper, in adults too.  When I do my steroid treatments, I'm told to take benedryl.  Maybe call your pedi and see if that is an option.  GL.
