C-section questions

1. I am 5 days out, is it normal to have that burning, tearing feeling along the incision site still?  It looks fine, no redness or oozing or anything.

2. We you were still needing pain meds at this point?

3. I fell like I want to be doing so much more, but am really limited to resting on the couch or in bed.  When will I be up and around more?

Re: C-section questions

  • 1.  I think it all depended on what clothes I wore.  I found that extra big clothes felt the best at that point...whenever I'd get a tight/tearing feeling.  I remember thinking that the something had to have torn on the far left side of my incision because that's where I felt almost everything.

    2.  I never needed "pain meds" I was still popping motrin, though.  I think I was on my motrin for a good 2 weeks.  I didn't take it regularly, but sometimes my body would be telling me I was doing too much and I'd pop a motrin and relax.

    3.  I did a whole lot in a short period of time.  I just couldn't be still...I did as much as I could and then more (most of the time).  If I felt up to it, I did it....people thought I was nuts, but it worked for me.

  • 1. I think so. I was still in a LOT of pain 5 days pp.

    2. That would be a big fat "yes."

    3. I would say after about 2 weeks I felt like I could do more and every day after that it got a little better.

  • 1. the burning is normal, I guess. I remember it at that point.

    2. That was about the point where I stopped. I was on Vicadin and Motrin, and they didn't work all that well to begin with anyway.

    3. You should be up and doing more. Just lying around isn't good. Take it easy, but get up and walk around or something light. Sooner than you think, you'll be recovered.

  • I think you are feeling completely normal.

    1.  The tearing feeling was normal for me when I tried getting out of bed or moved around in funny positions.

    2.  Definitely still on paid meds by that point.  I took the percs until about Day 7 and then continued with Motrin for a few days after that.  Keep taking them if you need them!

    3.  I went to the mall on Day 7 the first time and that was too early for me because I ended up being in a lot of pain.  I went Day 10 this time and it was much better.  I really started feeling back to myself after about 2 weeks and at 3 weeks I didn't have any pain at all anymore.  However, I just went to a wedding this weekend and danced too much and the incision hurt for a couple of days (I'm 5 weeks out now).

Just give yourself time and listen to your body.  Good luck.

  • 1. I think so, as long as there are no signs of infection (which it sounds like there aren't).

    2. I was still taking Vicodin - they sent me home with 30 and I took them all, alternating with Motrin. I probably could have got by with just the Motrin at that point but I figured I might as well use the Vicodin and be as comfortable as I could be.

    3. I know I could walk around and stuff at 5 days out. DH went back to work at 2 weeks out and I was still pretty sore but could manage to take care of my older DD and the baby by myself all day. The soreness gradually got better, but even now at 9 weeks out I have a tiny bit of soreness left.

  • 1.  Sounds normal - it is probably the internal incision that is hurting.  I had the same thing and my doctor said it was normal.

    2.  I don't think I took any pain meds after leaving the hospital... at least nothing that was prescription.

    3.  Get up and do a little at a time, but rest often and don't overdo it.  After 2 weeks, I felt about 95%.  It took the full 6 weeks before I felt 100%.

  • 1.  in some underwear i was uncomfy.  otherwise i was fine.  i was definitly itching though.

    2.  no.  just ibuprofin.  i was taking short walks around my house the day i got home.

    3. i was fine when i got home a 4 days.  but pain has never really bothered me.   i was sore on 1 side.  they said that was normal.  so i was able to sleep ok.

  • I was sore getting into and out of bed, but that was pretty much it (and much better when I came home and didn't have those high hospital beds to deal with).

I was done with pain meds by the time I left the hospital.

You should get up and move around as much as you can. . . I know everyone is different, but I was taking long (slow) walks the first day out of the hospital.
