Irritating Sounds Symptom?

Recently I've noticed that certain sounds really irritate me.  Like the sound of people chewing (mostly DH!), certain yawning sounds, jaw movements and loud banging.  Has anyone else noticed that not only is your sense of smell hightened, but also your hearing during pregnancy?

  • Those sounds bother me all the time even pre-pregnancy. You probably are just more irritable in general.

  • I've been highly irritated by loud sounds sometimes.  I'm not sure if it's really an enhancement of hearing or irritability that makes it more annoying. . . lol.
  • You know, this might be true for me. DH recently commented on it. I've been driving him absolutely bonkers telling him to stop biting his nails and "making that sound" while we're watching TV... and also lately it seems like he is deaf or playing the TV wayyy too loud. Yesterday at work I heard my CW grunting while she worked all damn day. I was thinking I was just irritable but maybe my hearing is more sensitive!
  • I don't think that I've been hearing better... I think I've just gotten more irritable! I noticed these sounds before and they didn't bother me but now chewing loudly and chewing gum really annoys me.
  • I think I'm just more irritable. My boss whistels all day. It annoyed me before pregnancy but now I'm at a point where it triggers irrational psychotic behavior.
  • This is so funny, I have terrible hearing, but lately, everything is bothering me.  It could be I am just irritable, but you aren't the only one noticing that weird change.  I thought I was going to go crazy at the grocery store with the checkout beeping.
  • I think I'm more irritable.  DH has been playing his new video game nonstop, and there is part of it that has church bells going in the background for a good 15 minutes straight.  The sound annoys me to no end!
  • So far only my boss is annoying me.  He comes to me at least 3 times and day to tell me "to call" X "and tell them" something.  I'm trying to figure out how to tell him I'm his engineer not is PA.
  • Funny that you say that. I live in Massachusetts and we did not have power for several days due to an ice storm.  I had to stay at my parents along with my sister and her family b/c they had no power in New Hampshire too.  The noise I found totally annoying.  The TV's were so loud, the chewing and other odd sounds just kept getting on my nerves.  Smells were bothering me too but I found many sounds annoying.

  • I hear it too! I can't have the radio on in the car, the TV is always too loud, everyones voice anoys me...I think it may be hormoal irritation, but it does make me feel better to blame it on heigtened hearing and not me being bitchy...
  • I'm just more irritable as well.  DH bites his fork when he eats, and last night I went off on him because that sound is like nails on a chalkboard to me.  He does it all the time, but I don't usually snap at him for it, just ask him not to do it.
  • I haven't noticed a change in hearing

  • OH MY GOD! I thought I was losing my mind last night! DH and I were in bed, and I kept hearing this noise as I was trying to fall asleep. Like a wierd sticky whistling/clicking noise every couple of seconds. I asked DH if he knew what it was. He said it was the TV. I kept hearing it in every scene, and was annoying as all heck.  After we turned off the TV, I kept hearing it. We finally figured out that it was a sticky booger in his nose that moved when he breathed. So then I was annoyed AND nauseated.

I'm just glad to hear I'm not the only one. WTF is up with super-power hearing all of a sudden??

  • My dog's lip smacking has been annoying the heck out of me!
