Babies: 9 - 12 Months

9 month old nap question

My DD seems to be transitioning to one nap...Isn't this too early?  She normally takes an hour morning nap around 9:30 and an afternoon nap around 2 that lasts an hour and a half.  She hasn't been getting tired until 11:30 or so, and then she sleeps until about 2.  I'm lucky she's been a pretty good sleeper, but the problem is she starts getting tired around 5, and I have to try and keep her up until bedtime at 7.  Those two hours are getting pretty miserable.

Re: 9 month old nap question

  • im not real clear on when she takes her naps...she takes a nap at 9:30 and 2? so does she get sleepy at 11:30 even after her 9:00 nap?

well i would readjust her nap times then, see if she can last past 9:30 am, even by 30 minutes and same with her next nap, (another 30 min.). see if that will at least give her another hour until 6 (instead of 5) and then try doing some sort of activity or take a stroll outside for a little while (even though i saw you live in MN and its freeeeeeeeezing there!!) and then prep for bedtime....

sorry if i couldnt be of any more help

  • Sorry!  She was taking two naps (one at 9:30 and one at 2), but now she's only taking one nap at 11:30 that lasts until 2.  Granted that's a really good nap, but it seems early that she's only down to one nap.  Especially since she's getting really tired again by 5 and I have to hold her off until bedtime.  Just wondering if she'll just adjust in a week or two, and maybe she won't get so cranky around 5.
  • we are only just down to 2 naps since about 8 months old, but when we went from 2 to 3, we just put DD down to bed earlier some nights if she needed it.  well, not at 5PM if she's tired, but maybe you could put her to bed 1/2 hour early?
