I started out with him wearing hats all the time, even inside. But then somehow I realized that they keep hospitals really cold, and that must be why he always had a hat on in there. I think our home is a comfortable temperature without a hat, so we quit putting them on him inside after about a week. I just make sure he seems comfortable and has a blanket if he needs one.

I did inside for maybe a month, outside for longer but it was still cold when DS was born in early April. It did not get warm until early June outside, so that's when I stopped worrying about hats (and started worrying about sunburn).
I'm a bad Mom too. Mine only wore a hat the first night to sleep (we didn't stay at the hospital). However, he was born in September and we live in South Florida where it was very warm.
my mom and MIL are always on my case about it.. "what if there is a draft?" so whenever they're around, he wears a hat inside. he always wears one outside, though.
not sure. I must be a bad mom he never really wore hats.
Me too! DS is a hot baby and putting a hat on him made it worse. He wears them sometimes but for fashion not warmth most of the time. Now that I think of it, he didn't even wear it in the hospital really.
Re: How long does my newborn have to wear hats?
