Freezing bananas

I'm about to freeze some for her mesh feeder tomorrow. Do I remove the peel? Cut them in half/pieces first? Put the whole thing in, peel and all?

Thanks!

  • I freeze them in the peel.  Then I just cut off pieces as I need them.

Great! That's super easy :) How long should they last? They are pretty yellow, but not green anywhere nor brown....so right in between as ripeness goes......

  • it's actually much easier to take off the peel, slice them in the size you need and place in a freezer bag.

okay, i guess i can't lose either way :) will one way ripen them faster? or do bananas keep when frozen like most other things?

  • I guess it all depends on when you've got more time.  I usually throw the bananas in the freezer when I'm cooking or straightening up the kitchen and worry about them later.  But if you're always in a rush at DC's mealtime then peeling and cutting ahead of time would be more convenient.

I don't think any ripening should happen either way.  If you do freeze them in the peels, just be warned that the peels will turn black.  The banana inside will be fine.
