We are looking into domestic adoption after struggling with IF for 3+ years. We're 38-39 years old, living in Michigan.
Three questions (for now), if you don't mind.
1. What is the "average" age of the adoptive couples on this board? in general? We're worried that we're getting to be at the upper age range - old enough to be grandparents to some of the younger birth moms it seems and they wouldn't pick us.
2. We've attended a few local agency information seminars, but not sure which agency to pick. How did you know which one was right for you?
3. I tried to look up the agencies we visited on the yahoo link posted earlier, but none of the agencies were rated. Is there another resource to check them out?

My DH and I were both 32 when we adopted our DS. I think the most important thing is what that the BM connects with you and what you have to say in your letter and profiles. Sometimes I think if you're a little older and settled, it helps.
We used a facilitator to help us choose safe agencies (agencies with no revocation period). The agency we adopted from actually contacted our facilitator and the facilitator picked us so it was a little different than a BM choosing us directly.
I would say the best thing to do is to just get information from the agencies themselves and talk to them personally, if you can.

We're from MI. I'm 35 and DH is 40. I think we fall right in the middle of the age range of people adopting with our agency.
I'll try to answer your questions....
1. I would think that most people on this board are late 20s or in their 30s based on what I've seen...
2. We chose our agency for a couple reasons. We went to an informational meeting they had, and we really liked what we heard. We felt comfortable. Then we found out that a childhood friend of mine had used them before.
3. I used this link before for a yahoo group: https://groups.yahoo.com/group/AARD/ . Is that the one you were trying to look at? You can ask them about agencies and get opinions.
