Hello,
I have b/g twins and I'm in the process of finding a nanny. How much would you pay a nanny per hour for twins? Also, what questions would you ask when interviewing a nanny.
We live in New Jersey - so the cost may vary, but what is a good range.
Thanks for your response in advance.
Re: Nanny - cost per hour??
$15
I would ask about what kind of child care experience she has. If she has younger siblings. What she sees herself doing in two years. Why she wants to be a nanny. How long she has been in the area, if a recent move, why? Contact for one relative, one friend, and two professional references with at least one professional child care reference. For her driving record since age 16, or for the last five years. Her SSN to conduct a background check. Any other names that she may have used. Proof of graduation from her last institution and then I would call them and ask about disciplinary issues. What she plans to do with the kids to occupy her day. Her theory on discipline and maintaining a schedule. If you need her to use her car as opposed to yours - about the car. Why she likes children. Has she ever watched twins or two children under two. Does she know anything about preemies. Will this be her only job. Does she like dogs (I have one). Will she clean/cook/or do laundry, if you want that (if so you need to pay closer to $20). Does she have her own child or plan on bringing it? About her boyfriend. Will she have anyone at the house when she is watching the kids. Oh, and her availability.
We are looking for a nanny 2 to 3 days a week ( 8 hours a day). I don't know if $100 a day is reasonable or not.
We pay our nanny $16/hour. She works 45 hrs. a week for us, drives the boys to the park, etc. in her own car, and does baby-related laundry, dishes and cleaning for us. The questions the pp listed are great ones to ask. We also asked all of our nanny candidates to spend a morning or afternoon with the boys so I could see how they interacted (we paid them for their time).
Depending on the person you hire's experience and what you expect from them - I'd say $100 day would be reasonable.
