2nd Trimester

Name issues ... WWYD?

The name game.  DD #1 is named Madeleine - Maddie.   We really like the name Emily for number #2.  However, we just moved to a new area and one of the moms in one of the groups I am in (as well as a mom I am trying to make friends with)  already has a Maddie and Emily.   Ugg.    If we were best friends I wouldn't do this.... but if we end up moving again it wouldn't matter would it??

  • eh, I wouldn't worry about it!  The name Emily is so popular because it's a really good name.  And maybe they'll move!

  • Do what you want to do for your family. Friends come and go and people move. If you love the name then use it.

  • I don't know really how to tackle this one. I have always been one to not want a name that everyone else has or will have. Then again some people don't mind because they love the name they picked soooooo much. I think it really depends on how in love with the name you are and if it matters to you more that other kids in the area have it. I know that isn't the case with me because my children have/will have very unique names. GL
  • Just tell her that you love the name Emily and now you have proof that the two go together very well.

    Keep your name.

  • The name Emily is very popular so no matter where you live there is always going to be more Emilys in her age group.  The whole Maddie & Emily thing is weird though.  What are the chances?
  • I would just make it into something light-hearted. Like, "oh, that's too funny, we're going to name our second daughter Emily too!" and laugh it off.

It isn't the end of the world.

  • If you like the name Emily, I would go with it.  I am particularly fond of the Maddie and Emily combo - those are my nieces names!

  • I wouldn't worry about it at all.  My neighbor is due 3 weeks after me and she when she mentioned the girl names they had picked out 2 were the same as names we had on our list.  There is a good chance our daughters have the same name.

  • You asked what I would do...well I always liked to have unique names that were not common to others around my family so I would choose a differant name. You however seem comfortable with that and love the name so I would suggest you just stick with it.
  • My SIL is a "name stealer," so I'm overly cautious about this topic. Her cousins stopped talking to her because one cousin was TTC and having problems and confided that she wanted a boy named Tyler. Well SIL had a boy and named it Tyler. The other cousin already had a boy named Colin, and I said I wanted a boy named Nicholas. She had another one and named it Colin Nicholas. Now she's naming her coming daughter Ava, because her friend's daughter is Ava. But it doesn't end there, she copies cars, clothes, lipstick, etc. Because of her, I'm so afraid people would think I'm a copycat freak, I won't pick a name someone close to me has...but this is a unique situation.
