3rd Trimester

Bath's ok at 37 weeks right?

RLP has come back and it's much worse. I heard you can take a bath to help loosen things up. Just want to double check this is ok to do.

Side note: Has anyone had a day where they got plenty of sleep and took a nice nap but am still extremely tired? I am feeling that today and it sucks.

Ok I'm done :)

  • i hope so, because i've been taking them every night this week! ?enjoy!
  • Baths are COMPLETELY okay until your water breaks.

  • Yep, they are fine as long as it's not steaming hot.

I've taken two naps today and I'm exhausted.

    Same!

  • I take them all the time and I'm exhausted too. I think it's normal.
  • as long as your vag isn't a gaping cavern.
  • Baths are A-Okay until your water breaks, then they're a big no-no.  Take one and I hope you feel better!

I haven't gotten "plenty of sleep" at night for a few weeks now, so I can't help you on that one.  I do nap frequently and still feel tired after a lot of them.

I understand the logic behind this, but there's no water being forced up your vagina in a bath. Given that plenty of hospitals allow or encourage laboring in a tub, this seems like more of an OWT than anything backed by research to me.

The one caveat about baths is that you should probably avoid them if you're in early labor, since they can slow things down. This is why most birth centers and hospitals don't want you getting in the tub right away, although if you're having labor that progresses too fast, or preterm labor symptoms, it can help.

Water can get in your vag.. (wether its gaping or not, pervs) and when your water is broke it can put you at jeopardy for getting an infection in your uterus. Which doesnt sound fun. It isnt an OWT, its truth. The same goes for a few weeks after birth, no tub baths.

  • At my birthing class last week, the instructor told us that "no bath after water breaking" had been debunked. She said that research has shown that water won't go up your vag - the flow is designed to go the other way - out. Not that I will even be thinking about taking a bath when my water breaks! I'm sure it all depends on who you talk to.
