I can totally answer this for you because I have had 6 put into my Honda Element since I bought it brand new 5 years ago. You can turn it into your insurance and pay the deductible (whatever yours is- mine is 100.00) and your insurance does not go up because this is a small claim. Or you can pay out of pocket and my window was 460.00 for a front windshield. But each one is different. The glass shop told me Jeeps, Honda Elements and Hummers are in his shop ALL THE TIME! Thus the reason why I had 6 windows put in because those car's front windshield is straight up and down and when a rock hits them it doesn't slide off like other cars.....so I will think before I buy one of these cars again.
I live in Georgia and I have had 2 replaced, one on a Mazda and on on a honda. It was about $250 to $300. They came to my work and did it in the parking lot. Very easy. My parents live in SC and that state requires insurance to cover it without any deductable, so it is free.
Re: npr: how much is a windshield?
totally depends on where you live, what type of car/windshield you have...and who puts it in.
Call around to a few local body shops, dealerships, and glass shops.
Good luck!
