XP: Calling in gay

I guess there is a huge protest today with people all around the country calling in "gay" in protest to Prop. 8.  It's like a huge sick-in.

What a cool way for a non-violent protest.

Re: XP: Calling in gay

  • I think it is kinda funny. I wonder what your boss would say to that? Lol. Especially if they didn't hear about this. Like...."ummmmm, ok? "
  • Thats awesome! I can imagine a lot of bosses said "what did you say? Love it!

  • Well I guess people are saying they are sick.  But either way it's cool in my book.  I hate that Prop 8 got passed.
  • Hehe that's great!

  • Very cool.  If I worked, I'd totally call in gay.
  • I don't have to give a reason when I don't come in.
  • Definitely a great way to protest and garner media attention for something as important as this.

But I do feel bad for any small business owners who, despite their beliefs, are being punished.

  • That's awesome! I need to ask my brother if he called in today. Cool way to protest!
  • Whatever :)  Here in Massachusetts, they say congratulations, we support your life and love, get your ass into work!!
  • LOL I wondered why 3 people on my Facebook had that as there Status, that they had called in Gay today! HAHAHAHA

Think it would work being married with 3 kids? People change right? LOL

  • This morning on the Stephanie Miller show they were joking about one of the anchors calling in sick.  Everyone who happens to be sick today is officially under speculation for their sexual preference.

I honestly don't get this.  I am all for gay marriage, but what does calling in sick to work prove.  A Day without a Mexican had a message because it showed how Mexican Immigrants support our work force, but they are fighting to stay in the country.  No one is suggesting that gays not be able to work in the US.

  • After having spent yrs in supervisory positions and needed that employee I would be greatly bugged by it!  I have nothing to do w/prop 8 why make my business suffer?

I remember a lot of hispanics did this in 2004 to protest immigration reform.  In Las Vegas anyone of the Casino/Hotel employees who did this and could not document thier absence was either laid off or punished on thier permanet record.  I think this is good.   If you want to protest like this that is fine but you better be ready for consequences b/c businesses need employees!

  • i LOVE it and have some friends who did it today!  i am very proud of them.
  • I'm sorry but I think that it is stupid and irresponsible. There's no reason anyone needs to lie to their boss to protest proposition 8.  It's unethical and puts a bad light on people who support prop 8, and it just reinforces the thought that democrats are lazy and don't work.

If you want to take the day off to protest, at least be honest with your boss and ask for prior approval.

...and you know how liberal I am, but I think that's rude.

  • Equating gay with sick has an ugly history in the psych books, no? I worried about pathologizing homosexuality.

That hits a little too close to home for the people given electro shock to cure them of the "gay".  Not sure about this calling in "gay" business...
