What do you want for Christmas?

MIL called last night to get our Christmas lists.  DH was talking with her and asked if I needed any pajamas or sweaters.  I don't need another pair of pajamas from Walmart that shrinks after one wash.  I don't need any sweaters from the juniors section of Kohls in a size small.  I would love a nice comfy sweater from Gap or The Limited or NY&C though.

No, I can't wear costume jewelry either.  I'm allergic to basically all of it.

What's on your Christmas list that your MIL could reasonably pick out?

I have spa gift certificates, a stove top espresso maker, and a few CDs on my list.  I could add coffee, but I don't want to get Folders Gourmet.  I don't trust MILs taste in wine...

  • I want knitting stuff.

You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
  • Honestly, I just want Gracie to have an awesome, fun Christmas.  For myself, I just want to make that happen for her and not cry at all.  It would also be great if our whole family was healthy and not sick with plague like we were on Thanksgiving.

  • The inlaws agreed to gift certificates to our favorite stores/restaurants this year (except for the kids of course).
  • A garage so my car isn't frozen shut daily.  A new kitchen.  A dishwasher would be nice.  Snow plow service.  Faucet for my clawfoot tub.  Someone to install said tub & redo the bathroom.  Kids that aren't sick all the time.  A personal chef.

Honestly this year, we're doing a recipe exchange with MIL and SIL.  We're all too broke to buy for each other.  I have a lot of books, movies, and cds on my amazon list, as well as some craft books.

I wish mine would do that.  MIL likes us to have things to open.

  • Patience or duct tape. I think duct tape is cheaper.
  • I can understand the "things to open" request. That is why I'm buying their gift certificates and wrapping them in a sweater, watch, etc. type box. lol.
  •  Wow... I erased what I would have written.

Hope you get back to the real meaning of Christmas before it comes and goes.

  • Are there any CD's, DVD's or Books you've been wanting? My MIL is the same way. She'll brag and brag about getting DH a cashmere sweater and then he'll open it to find a 100% acryllic sweater that she found at some flea market! We have to be VERY specific with her.

That being said, I really can't think of anything I'd want. I've been thinking that I might like that Heroes show and maybe the dvds for the 1st season might be fun, but I'd probably never watch it since DH monopolizes the TV.

  • (I agree with you about MILs having questionable taste. MIL shops in the TJ Maxx clearance for us. And when she asks for suggestions she doesn't follow them anyway.)

How about a specific book? (I'd like the new Ina Garten cookbook.)

Does your digital camera need a new card? Last year I got an external DVD burner so I can make video/picture DVDs for our family (it's also a Lightscribe burner).

A specific perfume? Or how about a family membership to the zoo (or children's museum or whatever) so you can go with DD all year?

  • What about a zoo pass?  Do you guys visit the Milwaukee County Zoo?  That was on my list :)

  • Can you send her a link to the specific sweater that you like from the gap?  Or can you say I love anything from the gap or the limited?

If you get bad clothes you can always thank her so much for the beautiful sweater... man, if only it fit ;)

Honestly, I'd rather she not buy me anything.  I'd rather just spend time together at the holidays.  I do know the real meaning of Christmas.  That's why I'd rather have ILs not waste their money.  They love to spend tons of $$ on Christmas, and that's not what it's all about.
