3rd Trimester

Measuring ahead...

doesn't necessarily mean anything right? I could still go full term and just have a bigger baby? I am measuring 2 weeks ahead according to my u/s last thursday. She looked to be about 7 lbs 6 oz plus or minus a pound of coarse. I find out at the doctor today if that changes anything I guess. The tech said the way she was measuring my due date could be changed to 12/15. I just don't want to get all excited for nothing. Any thoughts?

Re: Measuring ahead...

  • U/S can be 2 pounds off in either direction so yes it could mean nothing.

  • Yah, it likely means nothing. I've been measuring ahead 3 weeks and have had 2 growth u/s and my due date is not going to change. And I'm still here and very much pregnant. :)
  • Nothing against you, but I find it totally odd when ultrasound techs say "oh, we should move up your due date" because of the size. They baby still need to mature at the same rate as any other baby. Having large measurements doesn't make them more ready to come out early. You know?

But yes, you can still go to full term if you measure ahead. I'm two+ weeks ahead, and his weight is estimate at 8lbs 9oz as of today. Not huge (and could be wrong), but his skull and other bone measurements are putting him at about 41 weeks.

  • I was measuring ahead, but I'm still here :) So yeah, they definitely could be wrong!

Yeah that's why i am not really taking her info as final results. She said that's just what her machine said it would be. I don't think they will move my date. Also knowing how off those measurments can be in an u/s I am not going to worry about it. It is interesting how many people do measure ahead. My friend is measuring ahead as well but they keep saying she will deliver early for sure. I guess each dr is different as well.
