cutting nails

I HATE cutting DD nails!  I use the little scissors we have and they don't seem to work well.  I have used a file, but I don't feel like it helps to make her nails smooth.  She keeps scratching her face and I feel awful because I can't seem to get her nails to not be sharp Sad  What do you do to keep your DC's nails smooth?  HELP!

Re: cutting nails

  • We cut DS's nails every other day, and when he was smaller we put baby mittens on him while he slept to keep him from scratching in his sleep.

  • I use the Safety 1st nail clippers (got them from BRU I think) and they work really well.  The key, if you aren't doing it already, is cut them when your baby is asleep!  Makes all the difference to be able to cut close enough to keep them short enough that she can't scratch herself.  I also kind of edge the nail clipper under one edge of her nail so I know I don't have any skin, and it takes a couple clips to do one nail.  So far, so good!
  • i cut them when someone else is feeding them.... much easier
  • we use emory boards.

  • I use baby nail clippers and do while he is asleep. He doesn't wake up and I can take my time and make sure to clip them carefully. I usually file them when he wakes up. I hate when I wait too long to do it and he scratches himself too!
