I never did when we used the 2 ounce bottles. I just washed them regularly. When we moved on to bigger bottles (we were preemies so used 2 ounce for a while), we use Playtex disposable liners so it's not an issue, but I doubt i would have. I have sterilzed the nipples only once. I do pacifiers more often because they end up all over the place, they just feel dirtier to me (i know it doesn't make much sense)
I had bought a sterilizer but it took up too much counter space and i was annoyed they haven't inveted one that both washes and sterilizes. Lazy me.
I might be a little OCD in this department, but I usually sterilize after every wash. ?We have enough bottles to use through the day and then just wash/sterilize once at night. ?We have the Avent microwave sterilizer and it is pretty easy to use, but does take up a bit of counter space. ?I just hated seeing water spots on the bottles and we have really hard water so steaming is the only way to get rid of them
We use Playtex dropins too. I sterilized the nipples after taking them out of the package and haven't since. I didn't use a machine, I just boiled water and stuck the nipples in that. I also sterilized their pacifiers before the first use and maybe every two weeks now. Like PP, I think they do get dirtier. My girls spit those pacifiers out and they end up under the couch and other gross places.
I did for the first.. 5 months or so. I sterilized EVERYTHING.. then I read theat washing with hot, soapy water is fine too, so I stopped doing it. I would do their pacis periodically, and their podees every couple days just to be safe, but that was it.
I too boiled the nipples out of the package. Otherwise nope...just wash with hot soapy water after each bottle immediately and let air dry till the next bottle...this way I'm not dealing with 12 bottles in the dishwasher every night/morning or whatever. We started doing this after we realized this is what they were doing for jax all those months in the hospital....just wash the bottle immediately and use it again for the next feed....brilliant.
we do put paci's in the dishwasher basket for a good cleaning every other day or so...they do seem to be grosser with being all over the place.
I sterilize after every feeding and pacifiers because the twins had really bad thrush. It's gone now but I think it's a good habit to keep so I'll keep doing it.
