New and have a question

Hi all,

I've been lurking on the board for a few months now and have really enjoyed reading all the posts. I have a question though, DH and I have been ttc for about 6 months now with no luck. I'm wondering if we are having fertility issues. I know it can take up to a year to get pregnant but we feel like we've been doing everything right. I'm just really frusterated. I could use some advice from people who have been in our shoes. Should we consult with a doctor now or wait until it's been a year. Gosh I pray it doesn't take that long! TIA

Re: New and have a question

  • I got this one girls...

Are you charting?  That'd be the first place to start.  And pick up a copy of "Taking Charge of your Fertility".  Most fertility specialists would ask that you be trying for a year before they will see you, unless you're 35 or over and then it's 6 months.  GL!

you said it all right there.  You know it can take up to a year.  85% of couples will conceive within 1 year.    Even with perfect timing you only have a 20% chance each month.   That mean an 80% chance it wont happen.

Every month you start fresh.   Who knows maybe month 7 will be your lucky one.   Maybe not til month 12.   Hang in there.

No need to see a doctor until the year mark.  Some insurances wont cover a visit earlier anyway.   Also, there are those of us who actually need those specialist appt's and had to wait forever - due to people jumping the gun.

  • it can take way more than "up to a year" to get ktfu.  but it's a year before most doctors'll consider you as having fertility issues.  at least, that's my understanding.

what have you been doing to TTC as far as charting, temping, etc.?

    good luck!

  • I know how frustrating it can be.  We are in the same boat.  You feel like you are doing EVERYTHING right but never see that glorious BFP. lol  Just keep your head up and try to be as patient as possible.  I know it's hard!!  I hope you are charting because that makes it much, much easier and more fun, i think.
