Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Question re: Solids

When do you start feeding DC solids twice a day?  DD just grasped eating oatmeal with fruit once a day.  I DO NOT want to rush her but don't want to starve her either.  I know that solids is just "practice" and is not to be used as nourishment so I guess my question is:  How long can I get away with feeding her cereal once a day??  Also, if I decide to feed her twice a day, can I just give her oatmeal at night as well or should I start giving her a veggie?

I'm sorry for all the babbling.  DH took DD to her 5 month appt and didn't really get a good answer from the pedi other than, "at 5 months DD can eat twice a day."

Re: Question re: Solids

  • According to baby 411 once a day is fine.  At 6 months it said 2 or 3 times a day. I've been doing twice a day. Fruit in the morning and veggies at night.

  • Seeing as at your dd's age many babies aren't eating solids at all, once a day should be fine for at least a few weeks. Like you said, it's just practice right now. DS is still only once a day- we're focusing on introducing different foods more than frequency at the moment.
