3rd Trimester

How much weight...

do you generally lose on the day of delivery? I mean, obviously, the baby and placenta and some fluid, but really, I've heard some astronomical stories and I don't want to get my hopes up!

Re: How much weight...

  • I've heard some women lose none due to retaining fluids. That's totally gonna be my case, lol

  • ive heard 15-20 lbs is pretty normal but i dunno from personal experience yet

  • I was pretty full of IV fluids the day of/after delivery, but when I got home on the 3rd morning I'd lost 10 lbs.

  • Well, I didn't have a scale in the hospital to weigh myself, lol, but 5 days later when I got home I had shed 20 lbs.
  • My mom only gained 10 lbs. with my brother and left the hospital weighing less than pre-pregnancy.  With me, she gained 40lbs. and left the hospital not even having lost my birth weight.
  • I would estimate around 15-20lbs. I've never gotten weighed at the hospital after delivery, but at my 2week PP visit both times, I lost all 24lbs that I gained.?

  • I heard around 13lbs.
  • According to some random website, the 30-ish pounds you gain are distributed as:

    Baby -  6-7.5 pounds.
    Uterus -  2 pounds.
    Placenta - 1.5 pounds.
    Breasts -  1.5 to 2 pounds.
    Blood Volume -  4 pounds.
    Fluid -  4 pounds
    Amniotic Fluid - 2 pounds.
Maternal Fat Stores and Nutrients - 7 pounds So, some quick math:  baby+placenta+amniotic fluid are all gone for sure when you're done with delivery... that's about 11 lbs.  I know your uterus immediately shrinks, but I don't know how much of that weight changes.  The rest of it I imagine fades over the next few days

yeah, but how did the 30-ish I was supposed to gain become the 50-ish i did gain!? LOL

  • Remember too that while you may loose the weight and the actual number will go down - your body will look nothing like it did pre-preg.  When I had DD, I expected to still look a few months pg after the baby, was astonished at how big and flabby i still was.  The good news is though that it does go down rather quickly over the next week or so.
  • i only lost 10 pounds, but at almost 3 weeks PP i have lost 26 pounds.

This is true.  DS was 7.1 lbs and when I got home I had only lost 5 pounds.  Within 2 days though I dropped another 20.
