When you transitioned from a crib to a bed

did you start slowly, like for naps only?  We are trying the big boy bed today for nap.  So far so good.  Noah is in a whole new room all together, so I guess I just want to ease him into it, so he doesn't freak when he wakes up.

Re: When you transitioned from a crib to a bed

  • We did a naptime first..that went well...and he was excited so we just followed his lead.  If he seems happy and excited than go ahead and just transition.
  • We are wiating until he climbs out... I'm hoping for a 5yr old in a crib! (j/k!)

I think we will start with naps, but it'll be all or nothing, because we'll be changing his crib into the toddler bed...

    good luck!

  • We put her in it from the time we got it.  It seems to have worked out just fine.
  • i think we did a couple days of naps before going whole hog.

hey, fwiw, I was thinking of you. How's Noah's croup? We had the same exact scare where Ethan woke up barking and with the labored breathing and we were looking down his throat with a flashlight thinking he was choking.

Just wanted to share a tip a friend gave me -- for the next few nights, steam up your bathroom at bathtime. Everyone will tell you to do the steam to stop the coughing once it starts, but it actually has worked for us to prevent it. Good luck!

  • We put her in it for both naps and night from the 1st day it was set up.  There was no putting her in the crib anymore anyway, since she was climbing out of it.  She has done fine since and we never had any problems.  She was in the same room though.

  • Her bed was delivered in the afternoon, so we started that night instead of with a nap. After a couple rough nights, she is doing really well with bedtime in her big bed, but naps are horrible or non-existent.

  • We put DD in it right away. The first night, she was too excited to sleep though so she did go back to her crib. She started sleeping in her big bed on night #2 and has done fine ever since.
  • DD asked.  I did take the crib rail off for a week because we had to buy a new mattress for the twin. . . I just though if it was a fluke I could put the rail back on. . . but it wasn't.

Since it was her idea, I think that made it a non-issue.
