or just

2) Smith family

 

Also, my SIL has two kids from a previous marriage and they have a different last name. Is it ok to address it to just the smith family. (brothers last name)

For return address I either do The Smith Family or the Smiths

As for addressing I always do

Mr. & Mrs. Smith and family

That way it covers it all.

I do the same thing; Mr. & Mrs. Smith & Family.  My son has a different last name then me.
