DH being gone for 7 days equals

one child with severe seperation anxiety.  DS was absolutely fine, didn't act any different, while DH was gone.  But when DH came home Saturday afternoon, DS would freak if either of us left the room.  He had to be held the rest of the weekend.  When we went and ran errands, if DH or I ran into the store real quick, DS would freak out.  He was acting out all day yesterday.  Wakes up screaming from his crib in the mornings "MAMAMAMAMAMA!"  He has to be held during dinner.  Usually I'll just sit him on the couch to watch Little Einstein's after I get him changed and dressed so I can finish getting ready but this morning he wouldn't let me put him down.  I had to get DH up to hold him.

Has anyone experienced this before?  If so, how long does it last?
