Babies on the Brain

WTH was that??

I've been having some contractions off and on for days (nothing really timeable so I know it's not labor contractions) but I was standing up and got a incredibly sharp pain really low in my abdomen (it actually brought tears to my eyes lol). The extreme pain only lasted a few seconds and my belly was hard for a few minutes later but was that a contraction? Is that what labor contractions feel like? If that's what I have to look forward to (and if that's what they will feel like for a minute at a time) I would like an epidural right now please. :)

  • Doesn't sound like a labor contraction. Did you go from sitting to standing and then it happened?

  • To me it sounds like a contraction!  I think you may have that little one before long.  GL!

Nope, I was just standing up outside talking to DH while he worked on my car.

  • Is that what they call lightning crotch?

I've assigned that term to a pain I've had in the past but maybe I just don't know what I'm feeling. lol

  • Honestly it sounds like the contractions I had.

Did it feel like that for the entire minute (or longer) that your contraction lasted? If so, I do not have any idea how someone would ever be able to give birth without an epi. That was seriously the most painful 5 seconds of my life.

  • Huh. Dunno then. GL!
  • Contractions increase and then decrease in intensity.  It could have just been the most intense part, which is why it was still hard even after the pain went away.

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
  • I have had no BH contractions or anything that feels like a contraction (tigtening) but have been having the sharp pains that you describe for the last few days now. I thought it was ligament pain....but maybe it's my body's way of getting ready for the big event.

  • I was the same way, I had no idea what any ache and pain was.  But there's no mistaking when your in labor.  GL!

  • Mine start at either the bottom of my belly or the base of my spine and wrap to the opposite side. They start out annoying and get painful, sometimes to a point where I cant do anything. Breathing helps a ton...
