My 10 wk old has one and I am wondering if you know someone who had one how does it look now? Did they have surgery to fix it? Did it fix it self? And finally does their belly button look funny now?
DD#2 has one and so did my cousin (I think). My cousin did have to have surgery to fix it at like 5 or 6, I want to say, but I can't remember for sure. Our pedi says they usually fix themselves. If DD's doesn't, they would do the surgery after she's at least five years old. So far, it hasn't healed itself, but it can take years. Right now, her belly button just always looks a little dark and almost like it's dirty or has a little dirt in one spot (not sure if that makes sense), but again, hers isn't healed yet. We're not worrying about it too much (though I've asked the pedi to check it at every visit to see if it's gone yet). Nothing we can do for a few more years anyway...
ciarrai- you can't tell if it is still there? My son's belly button looks like a 1/4 of a hot dog sticking out of his belly. It is really creepy looking.
my dd has one! She loves to play with it and it's probably 1/2 inch sticking out? it's fairly nasty but at the same time, whatever... it's not like she's wearing halter tops :-)
The dr keeps saying he's not worried and he believes it'll heal itself. She's 2 in March.
My younger son was born with one, but it self corrected by about 6 months or so? He definitely doesn't have it now and it looks exactly like DS #1 - a perfect little innie (sp?). He was born in Australia and they told me if it didn't self correct by 3 or 4 they would do surgery to fix it. It seemed odd to me since its purely cosmetic.
There was a girl in my K class who had one- it was HUGE - literally looked like a penis growing out of her belly button- it gave me the heebie geebies.
My DH had one that popped out a few years back when he strained while wake boarding... he had surgery to fix it - pretty easy surgery.... it didn't look THAT horrible - sort of bulged out a little and you could push it back in and it would feel like it went "pop"... but then it would come back out. They put some sort of mesh in his belly to fix it- said it should never pop out again.
