Is there a secret to folding mattress sheets?

I'm tired of just rolling mine up in a big ball.  I'm trying to "reorganize" my house, move things around, etc and I've decided to put all extra sheets in a tote above the washer and dryer and the rolled ball thing will not cut it anymore.  And if ironing is to be involved....forget it! LOL!

Re: Is there a secret to folding mattress sheets?

  • shove them in the closet

I fold the ends first so it's more of a line.

  • I have no advice, I try to fold mine and they look like they are a crumpled mess.?
  • I just pull up the 4 corners by the stitching and fold.  it comes out perfect.

  • This is how I do it. I lay the sheet on the floor. fold in the corners w/ the elastic just enough to make the sheet a rectangle/square. then fold it in half the long way three times. then in half the other way. then fold the ends so they meet in the middle  and then do it again until they are in alittle square. hopes that helps.

  • I put my sheet sets into "packets." ?I fold the flat and fitted sheet (even if it looks like a ball) and the pillow cases and then I put them all inside one of the corresponding pillow cases for that sheet set. ?So, all I have to do is pull out one "packet" and all the sheets are inside. ?No rummaging around for matching pillow cases, etc. :)

  • Start with each corner over your hands so wrong sides are showing

Right over left. right side showing on your left hand

Then fold in half so all the elastic corners are together and you have almost a rectangle. Fold from there.

Sorry, I'm sure it does not make any sense.

  • Are you talking about the fitted sheet?  If there is a secret, I'm dying to know.  I attempt to fold it like I would an ordinary blanket, but it ends up looking like a crumpled mess.  I think your way sounds better than mine, so I may have to try that!
    1. Google Fold sheets & it will even give you a video.  I know I don't do it correctly either but have a BF that her closet looks amazing.
    2. Lay the clean and dry sheet on a bed or large tabletop.
    3. Slide each hand into the two top corners of the sheet from the inside, right sides out.
    4. Keeping the hands in the corners, bring your hands together, folding the sheet in half. Each hand should now be holding one top and one bottom corner of the sheet.
    5. Place the folded sheet on a bed or table and straighten out the folded corners. Fold in the long edges of the sheet to make a neat, straight rectangle.
    6. With the sheet now laying flat on the surface, pick up two corners and fold the sheet in half again, then once more. All four corners will be in the same place and you will have a long strip of folded sheet.
    7. Gather together two short sides of the sheet and bring this end to the other side with two short sides. You'll still have a long piece, but shorter now.
    8. Fold the strip again in half or thirds, depending on the size of your sheet and the space where you'll place it in the closet. If you have a small storage area, you might want to fold the sheet to a narrower rectangle.
    9. Use your hands to "hand press" the folded sheet and smooth out most of the wrinkles.

That's what I do. I learned it from Martha Stewart :)

  • Ditto AnneUCSB! I don't care if my sheets are a crumpled mess as long as they are all in the little packet. It has made my linen closet so much tidier.

    That's clever!  Good tip!
