I didn't need one because I had just had one 2 months prior. I THINK it is to test for HPV because that can effect pregnancy. Please don't quote me on that, but I think I read that somewhere....
I have HPV and according to my dr it is the treatment for HPV that can have an effect on pregnancy & then it is just the ability to get pregnant. So it shouldn't effect anything if you do have it.
I only got a PAP while pregnant because I was due for mine.
My doc said it is because you will be past due for one by the time the baby is born. They will do another one at your 6 week check after the baby comes.

Sometimes I think its to protect the docs. Even if its only a couple months there is still theoretically the chance that something is wrong or you contracted something. Just a precautionary measure sometimes I think.
