I am struggling with Elijah lately waking up at like 4 and 5am and not going back to sleep in his crib and only sleepig if he is held on me or sleeping next to me in our bed. ?He is not napping well either. ?The last two nights I go in to console him when he first cries to help him back to sleep, then let him back into the crib where he wakes up and starts to scream, so I have let him go for 20 mins, then pick him up again, then when hes sleeping lay him back down, and he has gotten up again and let him cry again for 20 minutes. ?This morning he would only sleep on me which i would not let him so we have been up since 5:15am. ?Any advice?
Re: Anyone do CIO?
I have no advice, because I'm in the same boat, only letting him CIO would mean waking up my angel sleeper!
Luke is up at 5 every morning, not hungry just awake. I end up bringing him in to bed w/ me and he falls right back to sleep.
Some things I did when he was getting up at 3...I slept with the pad we put under his head (he's a puker...so we have a mat that goes under his head to save me from changing sheets every day) anyways...sleeping with it, it got my scent and he slept longer with that.
Are you swaddling him? If not definitely try that.

We did Ferber. If you want to do this, you really must get the book from the library and at least read the progressive waiting section because it truly explains everything - not just the how, but the why, which is important in that second hour of screaming.
The first night was torture. The second night wasn't horrible and the third night he slept straight through. He regressed a bit around 7 months, so we had to do it again, but it has totally worked.
That said, we modified it a bit. We put him down sleeping and we don't go in anymore to reassure him since he gets more worked up if he sees us and we leave than he does to just be left alone.
