This week sucks-Long Vent

Lets see....

I am home alone with the two of them for the first time, and although DD is taking it well, it is still really hard

DS is STILL on lights at home for jaundice so he has to be in the living room under the lights all day which he hates, but will tolerate if I sit with him (kind of hard with a toddler)

DS jaundice levels are going down at a snails pace so it seems there is no end in sight to the lights

DS is not "gaining the way we want" - don't quite get this as he is an ounce away from birth weight- he is an awesome BFer and having great output so I am not too worried

DH is trying to make up time from last week so he is working 12-13 hour days

I have to sleep in a recliner in the living room to either hold DS with the light blanket or watch him under the lights so even though he is sleeping three hour stretches I am not-AHHHH

To top it off our dog ran away and DH looked for him for 2 hours last night, he is old and I am expecting the worse. DD loves him and so do I

I am still a basket case from the hormones and cry at least 100 times a day.

This sucks!!!

  • I am so better.  I am still overwhelmed with the two of them alone.  It is so hard!  Hang in there.  It will get better.  I hope your little guy gains quickly and gets off the lights!
  • Okay, don't know what I meant to say with the first sentence.  I think I meant "I am no better off"- but that didn't get said.  Wow- I am mean.  I am so sorry- I hope this didn't upset youl.

  • Congratulations on the new baby............

I think that it's harder for them to gain when they are under the lights, it dries them out so they lose some of the "water weight" that they would normally have.  If he is still having issues w/ his jaundice though you could ask the pedi about using some formula.....the more they poop the faster it gets out of their system and sometimes formula can help.  You could use a Supplemental Nursing System or a syringe if you do that so it doesn't cause nipple confusion.

I'm also very sorry about your dog.  I hope that your husband finds him.  It will get better, you have been hit with a lot of stuff all at once, and being over tired on top of it all doesn't make it any easier.
