3rd Trimester

Belly measurement ?

I went to my dr appointment today and the doctor said I my belly was measuring ahead. So I have an ultrasound on Thursday this week to see how big baby is. I didn't get a chance to ask this at the doctor. If I'm measuring ahead does that mean I'll just have a big baby with the same due date or will my due date be changed to sometime earlier?

Thanks!

Re: Belly measurement ?

  • might be a big baby, but it could also be the way the baby is laying when you got measured.  The ultra sound will tell you more.

  • I think you have to be measuring like over a week off before they will change your due date.  That's what I heard anyway.  I'm sure the u/s will show a lot with the baby's measurements.

    Let's try this again. :)

You usually have to be measuring 4+ weeks ahead before they'll even think of changing your due date. Changing your EDD this late in the game doesn't happen very often becuase late ultrasounds are not the most accurate for dating.

I've been masuring ahead about 3 weeks for the past 14 weeks.

  • I got the same results today (and posted below somewhere) but she's not doing my ultrasound until the next appointment in 2 weeks. I was charting when I got pregnant, so I know my due date is accurate (actually a day earlier than what my doctor thinks because I ovulated earlier than they estimate).  If anything, she will start thinking it's big, but I'm trying not to stress out about it yet. My family makes big babies and has delivered them all vaginally.

  • I have been measuring a week ahead for the last month.  Midwife said it could of been babie's position, because I am short-waisted, or a big baby.  She is not concerned with a big baby because my husband and I were both 6 pound babies and DH is not overly huge compared to me.  If I keep measuing ahead then they are going to do an ultrasound at 36-38 weeks.  She said not to worry and that this doesn't affect anything.
