Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Bite size foods?

I have been feeding solids to DD since she was 6 months old (she's 8 months now).  I have been giving her puffs, and she does really well with those.  When do I move on to bite size food and what did you start with?

Another thing, I put the puffs in her mouth...I try and let her do it herself, but she rarely gets one in there.  When should she have the pincher grasp down and is there anything I can do to help her learn how?

Re: Bite size foods?

  • if you have to put the food in her mouth she's not ready for finger food. When she starts grabbing it herself then start to experiment with other things.   Until then try thicker/chunkier purees if you think she would like that better.

  • DD wouldn't get the puffs in her mouth either. I had to pick them up using my pincer grasp and show her slowly how to do it. She mimicked me and she is now a pro at feeding herself puffs. It only took about two days.
