On a happier note, I finally bought a crockpot

And I am in love with it already. Bed Bath and Beyond had a 5-qt one for $39.99. I had a 20% off coupon, and it came with a $10 mail-in rebate. So because it was only $18, and I had a $20 GC to the store, I decided to go for it.

DH never wanted one because he didn?t think I?d use it, and he is wary about them (he?s a snooty chef). But so far I?ve made coq a vin and chili and they were aaawesome. DH even had seconds!! Buying it was one of the smartest things I?ve done ever.

I keep thinking about buying one, but DH has convinced me that we'll either burn the house down leaving it unattended or we'll die of food poisoning (his entire family got sick from chili in a crock pot once).

How exactly do you get food poisoning from meat cooked in the crock pot? Was it not cooked long enough? I'm confused - I didn't think that was possible!

Me too, bought mine yesterday at Costco. I've yet to take it out of the box, but it's only been one day.

Dai, I have no idea.  We've theorized that maybe it wasn't on a high enough setting.  It was DHs entire family though.  DH escaped because he had plans that day by chance.

I think you?re only supposed to keep it on the ?warm? setting for a max of 4 hours or something. DH is super anal retentive about food safety, as a result of his job. But the man will eat street meat in Mexico. That, I don?t understand.

I got the chicken and vegetable stew recipe from Better Homes and Gardens? website. YUM.
