Congestion/Allergies. I can't stand it anymore.

Okay.  I'm really sick.  I can't breathe at all.  I've always had allergies, but usually I go to the doctor when I am this congested and after a steroid shot, I'm much, much better for the next four months or so.  I'm right at ten weeks, and I'm really tired of not being able to breathe.  Any suggestions?  Has anyone else had a similar problem?  If so, what medications have your doctor approved for dealing with this?

  • I was really congested right before I got my BFP and I didn't want to take any meds because I knew there was a possibility that I was pregnant. ?A friend suggested using a neti pot. ?I gave it a try and it worked great!

  • I would call the doctor. They are things you can take that won't harm the baby, you just have to find out what your doc recommends.

I've been told by a few people that Sudafed is safe for congestion, but I tend to go to the professionals first and this hasn't been confirmed!

  • I am soooooo with you right now!! For the past couple days now, i've been so congested I can't breathe!  My dr. approved sudafed and benadryl for me. So that has been my saving grace. Also something that helps overnight, a warm mist humidifier and vicks liquid in it. That breaks up the congestion and keepy my sinuses moist.

    HTH :)

  • I feel your pain.  I haven't been able to breathe for the past week.  I'm hoping it's just a cold and not a sign of things to come.

  • call your doc. Most say sudafed is OK.

you should also have a humidifyer in every room of the house (i do- it has helped to keep my migraines away)... and use saline spray or a neti pot.

  • Ask the OB about any meds.  Mine ok'd pseudoephedrine (the kind behind the counter) and Benadryl.  A Netipot is just saline water and while it seems gross, a lot of people love it.  If you have severe congestion it's worth a shot.  And you can't hurt anything with saline water :-)
  • I started getting sick right when I found out I was pregnant..weird...but now I cant take anything! I've heard sudafed is ok too....must stay away from dextromethorphan ( the DM in robitussin) ...i feel so stupid, I'm a labor and delivery nurse and i don't know what meds i cant take....and i dont want to bother my doctor...i havent even had my first appt yet! guess I'll ask then
  • I feel your pain! ?I have really bad allergies and even get weekly allergy injections. ?My OB said Claritin, or Benedryl and Sudafed. ?I also use saline nasal spray. ?
